Asian Golden Cat

The Asian Golden Cat is found across large parts of South, Central, and Southeast Asia. It is similar to a leopard in size and behaviour and only weighs up to 16kg. Because Asian Golden Cats prefer deciduous and tropical forests interspersed with rocky openings, they are only found up to 3,000m.

Diet, Ecology & Behaviour
Not much is known about this elusive predator as it is hard to find and lives a solitary lifestyle. It was thought to be nocturnal, but has been recently discovered to be most active during dawn and dusk. Golden Cats communicate in a similar fashion to domestic cats; rubbing, hissing, spitting, purring, etc. Despite its size it can bring down much larger prey, including buffalo calf’s; however, it usually prey on smaller animals like deer, rodents, hares, and birds.
