Earthquake 2015 Udpate
June 1, 2015
On April 25th, 2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal. The epicentre was at 80km northwest of Kathmandu in Gorkha district. The earthquake affected many of the communities that live along the GHT, including loss of life, damaging infrastructure and widespread displacement of people from their homes. Two major aftershocks afterwards, 6.7 magnitude on April 26th and 7.4 magnitude two weeks later on May 12th, caused additional fatalities, further destruction and triggered many landslides. Now a month after the first earthquake, although the country is still experiencing aftershocks, business is slowly getting back to usual and we know that tourism will play a large part role in re-building. We have created the page Earthquake 2015 Update. This page will bring you regular updates on the situation in Nepal, especially the situation of those communities living along the GHT. If you have questions, we will do our best to answer – please contact us at [email protected].
